Upcoming Events

I will be participating in a few Plein Air events  this year.  For those of you who are not familiar with Plein Air, it is a  French term coined by the Impressionists for painting outside on  location instead of in studio.  Several areas throughout  the country sponsor Plein Air events to encourage artists to paint in  their locations and invite the general public to purchase art on site.   Plein Air events are a wonderful opportunity to paint with fellow  artists and introduce work to new viewers. 

Below are some Plein Air events I will be attending  this year along with links for information on the events.  I will  update this schedule as new opportunities become available. Some Plein  Air competitions are only one day.  Some last for  several days with opportunities to view and purchase newly painted work  each day.  

April 23 – May 2:  Augusta Plein Air Festival  

The  public is invited to observe art unfolding before their eyes each day  at “paint-out” events in a variety of locations from local wineries to  historic sites, with special days in surrounding towns. Over 100 artists will be scattered about the small towns of Defiance, New Melle, and Augusta, capturing and recreating the rolling hills of wine country, the Missouri River bluff, prosperous farmland, the Katy Trail and historic structures.

May 27 – May 30:  Lee’s Summit Plein Air Festival

The public is invited to explore the properties and other locations as they watch the artists paint. The event culminates on Saturday with Awards Celebration followed by an Art Show and Sale where fine art enthusiasts have the opportunity to collect artworks from prominent plein air painters from all across the country. 

June 7 – June 13:  Hermann Plein Air

Experience the rolling hills and vineyards of Hermann during the third annual Hermann Plein Air Festival. Paintings entered into the Paint Out will be sold during the Art Sale on Saturday, June 13.
